A new era in medical research has dawned on the University Heights Association campus.

Emerging from the old R01 single-investigator model in which researchers worked on parts of a larger project in isolation, the new Center for Medical Science aims to foster a collaborative environment among its partners.

The building houses researchers from the New York State Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center, Albany College of Pharmacy, Albany Medical Center, Health Research Inc. and Ordway Research Institute Inc. Scientists are focused on research areas such as bioinformatics, angiogenesis and cancer research, emerging infections and regenerative medicine.

By pulling these experts together under one roof, the Center for Medical Science, through the vision of its president and CEO, Richard C. Leibich, is promoting a multidisciplinary approach to scientific problem-solving and encouraging the formation of alliances to speed new and better solutions that will help make the Capital Region a hub of biomedical research.
