ALBANY, N.Y., March 08, 2007—Representatives from CBS 6, Freihofer’s Baking Company, and Price Chopper recently presented a check for $317,576 to officials at Albany Medical Center from proceeds raised by the 27th annual Melodies of Christmas concert and telecast. The event supports the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders.
“With the overwhelming success of this year’s Melodies of Christmas, the amount donated from this time-honored event has exceeded $5 million since its inception in 1979,” said David Clark, M.D., director of the Children’s Hospital. “Our sincerest thanks goes out to the community for their continued generosity and support, as well as to CBS 6, Freihofer’s, Price Chopper, and the Empire State Youth Orchestra and Chorale for their unwavering commitment to this vital regional program. We are grateful.”
The event’s corporate sponsors presented the check to Fardin Sanai, senior vice president of development and Foundation operations; and Bernadette Pedlow, senior vice president for hospital business services and hospital chief operating officer. Three physicians from the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders—Jennifer Pearce, M.D., Ann Nepo, M.D., and Joanne Porter, M.D.—were also present for the ceremony. The money raised helps underwrite health care staff and a variety of child cancer services at Albany Med.
The Melodies of Christmas concerts, which were held at Proctor’s Theatre and featured the Empire State Youth Orchestra and Chorale, had four sold-out performances (December 14-17). The concert was broadcast by CBS 6 on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
