ALBANY, N.Y., October 4, 2006—The Albany Medical Center recently received $10,100 from Hannoush Jewelers to benefit its pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The gift may be used to fund the purchase of equipment or comfort items for the children being treated in the PICU.
David Hannoush, co-owner, made the gift in memory of his son, Michael, who spent four months being cared for in the Medical Center’s PICU. “The doctors and nurses at Albany Med became Michael’s second family, and we were truly impressed with the way they cared for him,” said Hannoush. “While we honor Michael’s memory with this gift, we also honor the PICU staff. There is not enough we can do to thank them for all they did for our son.”
In accepting the gift, David Clark, M.D., director of the Children’s Hospital said, “Because many of our patients require lengthy hospital stays, we strive to make the pediatric intensive care unit a warm and nurturing environment with some of the comforts of home. We are grateful to the Hannoush family for their support of this mission and for helping us to provide the most advanced, empathetic and compassionate care to the sick and injured children of this region.”
Hannoush Jewelers is a direct importer of the diamonds and gemstones they use to manufacture their jewelry. Hannoush Jewelers operates two stores in the Capital District, including Colonie Center and Crossgates Mall in Albany.
The 17-room PICU at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Med is the only one of its kind in the region. Albany Medical Center is northeastern New York’s only academic health sciences center. It consists of Albany Medical College, Albany Medical Center Hospital; and the Albany Medical Center Foundation, Inc. Additional information about Albany Medical Center can be found at www.amc.edu.
