ALBANY, N.Y., September 6, 2006—The Albany Medical Center recently received $50,000 from the Olivia Tremont Fund, Inc. The fund, which was originally founded and funded through donations for their late daughter, Olivia, was recently transferred to Albany Med by Kathi and Kenny Tremont to establish the Olivia Angel Grace Tremont Endowment Fund. The fund will assist the families of children receiving extensive care at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Med.
At the age of four months, Olivia was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and a rare lung disorder called Primary Alveolar Failure that required both a heart and lung transplant. While both transplants were conducted at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital, Olivia received extensive care throughout her life—both before and after her transplants—at The Children’s Hospital at Albany Med. Despite both hospitals’ extraordinary efforts to save her life, Olivia died on August 7, 2001 at the age of two.
The Tremonts relied heavily on the financial support of their community to help cover the medical expenses that incurred. That support, which meant so much to the family, inspired the Tremonts to transfer the remaining donations to help others in similar situations.
“Since so many people throughout the community gave generously to us throughout our ordeal, we felt that it was important to give back,” said Kathi Tremont. As a tribute to Olivia, the Tremonts decided to give back to the Children’s Hospital at Albany Med by transferring the fund.
“We were grateful for the care Olivia received so close to home at Albany Medical Center,” said Kathi. “Having both the Children’s Hospital and the comfort of home made our difficult situation a little bit easier.”
Income generated by the fund will help provide financial support for families in need while their children are undergoing extensive medical treatment at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Med. The funding also will enhance overall patient care at the Children’s Hospital through the purchase of rockers, blanket warmers and other items to make their experience more comfortable.
“The Children’s Hospital is committed to providing the best possible care for children and their families, including creating a warm and nurturing environment to aid in the healing process,” said David Clark, M.D., director of the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center. “We are grateful to the Tremont family for recognizing this important component of the Children’s Hospital and supporting our efforts so generously.”
