   July 18, 2006

ALBANY, N.Y., July 18, 2006— Albany Medical Center recently received a $112,500 gift commitment from CDPHP. The commitment includes a $50,000 pledge to support the John H. Carter Scholarship Fund, as well as ongoing support of annual fundraising events to support the Children’s Hospital at Albany Med.

“We greatly appreciate CDPHP’s contributions to the Albany Medical Center and salute their dedication to improving the quality of health care in our community by supporting our patient care and educational missions,” said James J. Barba, president and chief executive officer of the Albany Medical Center. “Through their ongoing and generous support, CDPHP continues to set a high standard for philanthropy in the region.”

The John H. Carter, M.D. Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 to honor the legacy of the late Dr. Carter, founder of CDPHP.  Through the fund, a scholarship is awarded each year to a medical student from the Albany area who demonstrates financial need. This year’s recipient is Lori DeFreest, M.S., Ph.D., a second-year medical student from Albany. In total, CDPHP has committed $70,000 to the scholarship fund.

“Dr. Jack Carter truly exemplified the definition of a physician, and CDPHP lauds Albany Med for their commitment to honor his memory,” said William J. Cromie, MD, MBA, president and CEO, CDPHP.  “We’re so pleased to partner with Albany Med in supporting future physicians through this scholarship. It is our hope that Dr. DeFreest will use Jack’s legacy as a source of inspiration in her medical career.”

CDPHP has also committed to being the lead sponsor of the annual Dancing in the Woods Champagne Ball to benefit the Children’s Hospital for the next three years.  CDPHP has held that distinction since 2001.  In addition, CDPHP has committed to funds to support the annual Children’s Hospital Golf Tournament for the thirteenth consecutive year.
