ALBANY, N.Y., Dec.21, 2005 — Norman F. Angell, M.D., Ph.D., has been appointed chief of gynecology at Albany Med’s Women’s Wellness Center and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Albany Medical College.
Dr. Angell succeeds Stephen Cohen, M.D., who was recently named director of minimally invasive gynecological surgery and reproductive sciences at the Medical Center. In this role, Dr. Cohen will lead Albany Medical Center’s new infertility program that includes infertility counseling, diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Angell received his medical degree from the University of Louisville in Kentucky and completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Rochester, where he also received a Ph.D. in perinatal behavioral toxicology.
Dr. Angell comes to Albany Med from the University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital where he served as an associate professor and program director for obstetrics and gynecology. Prior to joining the University of South Alabama staff, Dr. Angell practiced infertility and gynecologic surgery in Utica, New York for 16 years.
Dr. Angell is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and received accreditation from the Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy in advanced operative laparoscopy and hyteroscopy. He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a member of numerous professional medical organizations, including the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons and the Society of Reproductive Surgeons of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Angell has particular interest in infertility, endoscopic surgery, pelvic reconstruction and the treatment of urinary and rectal incontinence.
Dr. Angell and his wife, Carolee, currently reside in Watervliet. They have three grown children.
