ALBANY, N.Y., July 29, 2005 – Michael Gallichio, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been appointed associate professor of surgery at the Albany Medical Center, where he joins the institution’s kidney transplant team—one of the most successful in the nation.
Dr. Gallichio previously served as a staff surgeon in vascular access at Birmingham Veterans Administration Hospital, Ala., and as assistant professor of surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the division of transplantation, where over 300 kidney transplants are performed each year.
He completed a fellowship in clinical transplant surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and was a surgical research fellow in transplantation immunology at the Albany Medical Center, where he also performed his residency. He received his medical degree from the Albany Medical College and his undergraduate degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Dr. Gallichio is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Society of Transplantation and the Association for Academic Surgery. He has authored numerous papers and has been published in several publications including the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, the American Journal of Transplantation and Radiology.
He resides in Rensselaer with his wife, Kathleen Gallichio, R.N., M.S.N., C.C.R.N.
