ALBANY, N.Y., July 27, 2005 — Vikramjit Singh Kanwar, M.D., has been appointed assistant professor of pediatrics at the Albany Medical Center. Dr. Kanwar specializes in pediatric hematology/oncology and is a member of the staff of the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders in the Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Kanwar recently served as clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital of Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, where he established the hospital’s pediatric neuro-oncology program. He also formerly served as chief of pediatrics at Olean General Hospital in Olean, New York.
Dr. Kanwar completed his fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He received his bachelor of medicine from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India and received additional training at the Royal College of Physicians in London and the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Dr. Kanwar also holds a master of business administration degree from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Kanwar resides in Delmar with his wife Rupinder and their two sons, Gurtej and Satjiv.
The Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders is the region’s only child cancer program. The program treats nearly 700 children each year.
