ALBANY, N.Y. March 15, 2005 ¾ Employees of Albany Medical Center recently presented over $29,000 to the American Red Cross to use in its efforts to aid the victims of the last December’s tsunami.
The bulk of the funds were raised on February 4 when the Albany Med Swing Docs conducted a benefit performance at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center to support the relief efforts. In addition to that event, other Albany Med staff members also contributed to the relief efforts by making contributions at collection points set up in Albany Medical Center Hospital and in the Albany Medical College.
Stanley D. Glick, Ph.D., M.D., professor and director of AMC’s Center for Neuropharmacology & Neuroscience, was the main organizer of the event. “The outpouring of goodwill was just magnificent,” said Glick. “I’ve never experienced anything like it. Of course the irony is obvious - that something as horrible as the tsunami disaster brings about the very best in people.”
