TROY, N.Y. - On March 15, the Academy for Character Education at The Sage Colleges, along with the Capital Region Student Support Services Center, will host the 2nd annual Youth Summit for Character Education and Asset Development.
The summit is an all-day program for middle school and high school students and their advisors from twelve area school districts. The event aims to encourage participants to discuss and better understand the processes involved in developing positive character traits. The program will allow students to interact with each other and with their adult mentors in order to build the positive experiences that foster a community of character.
Keynote Speaker and Performance Featured
The summit's events will feature keynote speaker Clifton Taulbert, Pulitzer Prize-nominated author and president and founder of the Building Community Institute. A performance of the anti-bullying-themed, interactive play PICKIN will be delivered by students from the Berlin Family Career and Community Leaders of America. Summit participants will also take a tour of The Sage Colleges Troy campus.
Goals of the Summit
The Youth Summit's goal is to plant the seeds for a comprehensive Character Education and Development Asset Program. The event also acts as a kick-off for several activities involving the Character Education program in each participating school. Students attending the conference include middle school/high school teams from Berlin, Catskill, Cobleskill, Cohoes, Broadalbin-Perth, Schenectady, Schodack, Watervliet, Albany, Troy, Lansingburgh, and South Colonie. Each school team will produce a specific plan for their school to follow during the coming year.
