ALBANY, N.Y. – Sergio A. Mendez, the leader of Albany College of Pharmacy’sdevelopment and alumni initiatives, has been promoted to vice president of development and college relations, President James J. Gozzo, Ph.D., announced.
In his new role, Mr. Mendez will continue his stewardship of the college’s expanding fund-raising and relationship-building efforts. A primary focus for the institution is construction of a new Student Center.
“This is an exciting time as we grow our academic programs and our physical campus to continue preparing our students to be leaders in health care,” Mr. Mendez said. “With that growth comes the challenge of developing new and more diverse avenues of support to strengthen and improve our institution. It is a mission I am proud to lead at Albany College of Pharmacy.”
Mr. Mendez has been at Albany College of Pharmacy since Jan. 5, 2001, when he was hired as director of development and planned giving following 11 years as president of Alliance Planning Consultants, a local financial planning firm he founded in 1990. Prior to Alliance Planning, Mr. Mendez served as a lead fund-raiser for various institutions and non-profit organizations, including RPI, St. Lawrence University and the XIII Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid.
Mr. Mendez has been responsible for leadership of the college’s Office of Development and College Relations since January 2002, when he was named director of development and college relations. His new position was effective Feb. 1. A native of Cuba, Mr. Mendez resides in Ballston Spa with his wife, Kerry, and son, Evan. He is a leader in the Christian Brigade organization and has been active with the local Rotary.
