ALBANY, N.Y., February 12, 2004 –The wife (Maura McNulty) and family of Albany Police Lt. John Finn asked the Albany Medical Center’s Public Relations Department to release the following statement on their behalf Thursday afternoon following the death of Lt. Finn:
“While our hearts are filled with sadness with John’s passing, we take comfort in knowing that he lived life to the fullest and was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, friend, officer and citizen. He served his community with integrity, selflessness, and courage and truly cared about others. We will miss him greatly and will cherish his memory all the days of our lives.
At this time, we also wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the Albany Medical Center for the outstanding and compassionate care they delivered to John. From the moment he was brought here, the doctors, nurses and other staff members provided him with the best medical care possible along with great kindness and concern. For this, we will be forever grateful. We also wish to thank John’s fellow officers and firefighters whose response was immediate and sustaining, as has been the support from the public.
In addition, we wish to thank all members of the media who have respected our family’s need for privacy throughout this difficult time.”
Lt. Finn died at 3:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 12) with his wife and other family members at his side in the surgical intensive care unit of the Albany Medical Center.
