   ALBANY, N.Y., January 16, 2004 – Albany Medical Center’s 20th annual
“Dancing in the Woods” champagne ball, which benefits the region’s only Child Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, experienced another record-breaking year, raising approximately $300,000 in net cash – a $10,000 increase from the previous year’s effort.
The Dec. 6 event drew approximately 1,100 attendees despite inclement weather.
“We are extremely grateful to the generous volunteers, corporate sponsors and event participants who make this event a success each year,” said Richard Sills, M.D., director of pediatric hematology and oncology. “Their support allows us to provide the highly specialized medical care and emotional support that these children and their families so desperately need.”
Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan (CDPHP) was the lead sponsor for the event for a second year. The donation was part of a five-year gift commitment CDPHP made to the Medical Center last year to provide $20,000 each year to support the fundraiser.
The Child Cancer Program at Albany Med helps more than 200 children and families annually whose active therapies include treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. In addition, continuing care is provided for more than 500 childhood cancer survivors each year.
“Dancing in the Woods” was held at 22 Corporate Woods Blvd., Albany. The space was donated by the Picotte Companies.
